| First Sketches of the charracter The charracter will be a Banana, simple and effective. The face would be added last, after the test runs of the walk. The walk was a success in terms of the type of walk I tried to do, however the foot changed sizes in the walk, which will be fixed soon. The first walking animation had a few problems. The minor ones were that the size of the foot incresed towards the end of the walk. Also the whole shape of the charracter changed. The major one was that the arms seemed to have rotated. I have re-drawn the whole walk correcting the problems. The rotating arms were the result of the difference between the first picture and the last, the first picture had the right arm on the left side, at the end of the walk it was on the left. The problem was that the arm did not reverse and go back left, instead it spawned on the left side, this caused a rotating effect. | |

| The final walk is now complete The experience I gained helped me re draw the hole thing, this time I've taken out the bottom part of the Banana, the allowing me to give more detail on the movements of the leg. The walk has also been changed, instead of a casual laid back walk I have decided to go for mini skip with flailing arms, to give that 'free spirit' and young appearance to the character. | |

| nticipation - Anticipation refers to the precise movement preceding a major action which is used to either build suspense or a dramatic effect. We can see anticipation used in almost every cartoon. An example of this is the coyote slowly pulling a giant sling and waiting. This sets a tension as the viewers anticipate something disastrous to happen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hz65AOjabtMSquash and Stretch Squash and stretch is important when it comes to adding comical effect or making a cartoon more realistic. Often it's used in cartoons when a character gets struck by a moving object. The classic episodes of Tom & Jerry feature many examples of squash and stretch. Tom often runs into objects like pans and his face squashes into a pan shape before stretching out and returning to normal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uL0LkxwxgngOverlapping action Overlapping action implies that every motion does not occur at the same time. When we see someone walk he/she takes one step using his right foot then his left arm moves forward followed by his left leg taking a step forward. This principle adds realism and makes the cartoons more interesting. http://www.artie.com/gifs/n0v/b-and-w-pix.gifFollow - Through This principle, used mainly to add realism, ensures that whatever moves does not stop immediately, it decelerates. The road runner usually stops instantly, but it still uses this principle, as his body slants forward affected from his instant stop. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJJW7EF5aVk&feature=relatedStaging Staging is the principle that an is completely and unmistakably clear. Without staging cartoons would have too much actions for the viewer to follow. Too many events happening at the same time will cause confusion and the viewer would most likely lose interest. Staging ensures the viewer to follow a certain character's emotions or movements . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlXjIg4fH74Exaggeration Exaggeration is when a character acts too much e.g. when tom screams in agony when he is barely stabbed with a small needle. Another example is when a washing line cuts tom into pieces when he falls on them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUHmf7Y-9ww&feature=relatedSecondary Action Secondary Action is an action that results directly from another action. Secondary actions increase the interest and adds realistic effects on the animation. Secondary action is when a hammer bounces back in recoil after it hits the ground. Sometimes it can be as simple as a rippling of a cord after a the movement of the lamp. http://www.evl.uic.edu/ralph/508S99/gif/second.gifWeight This principle is used in all animations, it simply follows the rules of gravity, what goes up must come down. Weight ensures that characters won't look like they are floating when walking. A feather does not simple drops to the ground, it floats. A bowling bowl will not bounce like a beach ball. Weight adds realism to animations. http://www.cartoonstock.com/animation/directory/w/weight_animations.aspBalance The body is almost always in balance. If you extend your left arm, your right arm, shoulder and torso all pivot and move back. Cartoons do not stand perfectly straight. http://www.zanekohler.com/storage/blog-photos/class_2/sketches-frames.jpgCurved Motion Curved motion is another principle which adds realism to an animation. This can be used when a character throws a baseball. http://image.tutorvista.com/content/gravitation/projectile-trajectory.gif | |

| I'm looking at this and getting confused about which arm is on which side. As I think I see lines over both of them to indicate that they are behind the character. However, it could just be the flickering I'm getting here as well. It kind of hurts my head. Despite that, the design of the character is interesting. It's good to see that you've moved away a bit form the original banana sketch. It looked a bit too Don Hertzfeldt-ish. | |
