animation needs a sense of realism, and basic principles are applyed so that the viewer gets the feel of whatever it is being real to a degree for example, the way someones legs would move, or how and object would fall to the ground due to gravity. all these little points combine together to make realism
1. Anticipation anticipation is the build up for the audience for an action, and to make the action appear more realistic. Anticipation can be used for actions, such as when a character looks off screen it anticipates the arrival of another character or object, or when a characters attention is focused on an object that is about to picked up, using anticipation is a good way to lead onto the next scene.
Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5A7PDeEaL04 in this clip the character stops and sees the object on the floor, giving the audience the anticipation that the character is going to interact with this object
2. Squash and Stretch squash and strech is an important principle to any animation or film, the purpose gives a sense of weight and flexibility to 2d objects or 3d objects. squash and stretch can be used from basic objects such as a bouncy ball - in which it would hit the floor squash and then bounce back up which would happen in real life, also squash and stretch can be used in more advance things such as a humans muscles and how they stretch and squash when a face is moved or when your legs move, when added to a character, this principle will give your character a good sense of realism and that your character is alive
3. Exaggeration exaggeration is an effect especially useful for animation, because the limitations of drawing a completley realistic drawing is dull and you cannot show emotions in a stereotypical way. when someone is angry and they're face goes red and there eyes bulge, or when theres something amazing or eye catching happens, the characters eyes will pop out of the back of there head to show how much intrest the character has. also exaggeration of when a character hits there thumb with a hammer, and there thumb swells up red and throbs really big to serveral times its size.
4. Secondary action Secondary action is the actions added to the main action to give a character more life, when a character is walking a good example of secondary action would be his arms swinging, or his facial expression changing, the main action is the movement of the legs and the walking which stays as the primary action. adding secondary action to facial expression adds realism for instance, if someone is talking, there eyes dont stay still, there eyes will be moving and this would be the secondary action
5. Staging this principles purpose is to direct the audience's attention, and make it clear what the focal point is of a certain scene, things that make a scene are things like lighting, shadows, camera angle, placement of the character, expressions, character personalities. all things that are related to animation or even films, make a scene realistic.
Johnston and Thomas defined it as "the presentation of any idea so that it is completely and unmistakably clear" - Disney Animators
i found this short video which briefly shows the pinciples

awesome!
The antennae on his head could sway, maybe? That'd look cool!
Maybe add some extra whirring cogs or sparks with each step, and it'd be a winner!

This looks like a chipper wee robot. Lol.
I think this could be improved by perhaps turning the body a little bit more towards profile view. Everything else seems ok. It'll probably look brilliant with the arms added and sme extra tiny details like some wiggling of the antenna at the top.
